How do I pair the smart plug to my phone?
Why can't the app find the Smart Plug?
- Make sure the outlet has power. Repeat the Wi-Fi setup procedure.
- Make sure your mobile device and the Smart Plug are connected to a Wi-Fi network.
- Make sure your home Wi-Fi router's 2.4GHz band is active and visible. The Smart plug will not function with the 5GHz band.
- Make sure your network is working properly.
- Go to Reset your Smart Plug.
Why can't I turn devices on or off with the app?
- Make sure the devices you connected to the Smart Plug are set to the on position.
- Make sure your mobile device and the Smart Plug are connected to a Wi-Fi network.
- Make sure the wall outlet is not powered by a wall switch. If it is, move it to a non-switched outlet or leave the wall switch always on.
- If the green status light on the Smart Plug is flashing, Wi-Fi connection has been lost. Go to Why is the LED indicator flashing green?.
- Quit the app, then restart it and try again.
- Turn off your phone, then restart it and try again.
Can I turn off the Smart Plug manually?
- Yes, just press the power button/LED indicator on the Smart Plug to manually turn devices on and off.
What devices can I control?
- You can control fans, coffee makers, decorative lights, and other devices that meet the specifications (120V AC, 60Hz, up to 15A - 1800W Max).
Why is the LED indicator flashing green?
- Flashing green means there is no Wi-Fi connection or your Smart Plug is searching for one. Go to Why can't I connect to Wi-Fi?.
- You may need to reset your Smart Plug.
Why is the LED indicator off?
- The outlet is either off or the LED has been disabled in the app.
How can I check the Wi-Fi signal strength where my Smart Plug is located?
- Before setup, you can connect a mobile device to your Wi-Fi network, then hold it next to the outlet where you plan to connect the Smart Plug. Use your device's Wi-Fi indicator to determine signal strength at that location.
- After the Wi-Fi Camera is set up, you can check signal strength in the CONNECT app. Tap the info "i" button in the upper, right corner of your screen:
- Strong Wi-Fi signal: Displays 3 green bars
- Weak Wi-Fi signal: Displays 1 green bar or red
If you have a weak signal, the plug may work intermittently. You can move the plug and Wi-Fi router closer to each other or install a Wi-Fi range extender (booster) halfway between your router and the Smart Plug to increase the signal in that part of your home.
How do I reset my Smart Plug?
- Press and hold the button for 10 seconds (LED flashes green and the Smart Plug resets upon release).
How do I do a factory reset on my Smart Plug?

- Unplug the Smart Plug, then press and hold the power button.
- Continue holding the button, plug the Smart Plug into an outlet, then release the button when you hear a click (about four seconds). The LED blinks.
How many Smart Plugs can I connect?
- You can connect as many Smart Plugs as you want, as long as your Wi-Fi network can support it.
How do I create a schedule?
- Make sure that you are signed in to the CONNECT app with your Best Buy account.
- Tap the Schedules tab from bottom of the app's Home page.
- Tap the + sign next to Create New Schedules.
- Name your schedule, then select the Start Time and End Time. Tap Repeat if want the schedule to repeat weekly.
- Tap Add Device and select the devices that you want to assign to the schedule to.
- Tap Save. The schedule shows up in your list of schedules.
How do I delete a schedule?
- Tap Schedules from bottom of the app's Home page.
- Tap the name of the schedule you want to delete.
- Tap the trash icon next to Delete Schedule.
How do I view the Consumption Report and Power Meter data?
- Make sure that you are signed in to the CONNECT app with your Best Buy account.
- From the main Devices page, tap the Smart Plug that you want to view. The metering information will display:
- On Since: The amount of time since the plug was last turned on.
- Hours On: The total time the plug has been on today (since midnight).
- Est. Cost: The total electricity cost since midnight
- Now: The current power consumption of the device connected to your smart plug.
- Tap Full Report to view additional information:
- Daily Average On Time: The average time the device has been on per day.
Note: This will be blank during the first day of operation.
- Estimated Monthly Costs: The estimated monthly electricity cost for the device connected to the plug based on the average daily use.
- Average Daily Energy Use: The average daily kilowatt hours (KWh) of energy used for the device connected to the plug.
How do I set my electric utility rate?
- The Smart Plug uses your region's utility rate by default. You can manually set the rate by tapping the Edit (pencil) option on the device's page.
After the app updated or setup, I no longer see my old devices. How can I access them?
- Make sure the "Home" and "Rooms" selections in the app match the home and room names you set up for your device.
- If using an iPhone, the Apple Home app's "Home" settings will appear in the Insignia CONNECT app as well. Select the home accordingly.
Can I use the Apple Home app to set up and control my Smart Plug With Metering?
Yes, your Smart Plug With Metering is HomeKit compatible. You can set up your smart plug with either the Insignia CONNECT app or the Apple Home app. However, the Insignia CONNECT app will provide additional functionality such as power measurement and energy consumption data as well as more scheduling options. Siri voice command functions work in either case.
Why is my smart plug not showing any power or energy consumption data?
- Make sure that the device connected to your smart plug and the smart plug itself are both turned on.
- If the device was just connected to the plug or turned on, it may take a couple of minutes for the data to display.
- Try refreshing the screen to display latest data.
